The SAT, Scholastic Assessment Test, is designed to evaluate a student’s readiness for college. At Monache High School, it is offered six times in the 2012-13 school year: on October 6th, November 3rd, December 1st, March 9th, May 4th, and June 1st.
If you are planning to take the SAT, make sure you register before the day of the test. Stand-by testing is not allowed. You can register at collegeboard.com. Unlike previous years, you must upload a picture of yourself when registering and have that same picture with you when you go to take the test. It should be just you, facing forward; similar to a yearbook picture. You are not allowed to switch which test you are taking after you have registered, so choose carefully. It costs fifty dollars to take the SAT. However, free waivers are available to students who are unable to pay.
The SAT is a big deal, so preparing and studying for it is essential. It tests you in Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. The Monache Library has SAT study books available and there are also study books available to buy online. There is also a practice test that you can take for free on collegeboard.com. On testing day, in order to get in, you must have a copy of the photo you submitted to register and you must have your admission ticket. The only things you need are pencils and a calculator. However, some graphing calculators are not allowed. Bear in mind that cell phones, headphones, and things of that nature are highly discouraged.
